A Celtic Knot Mandala

A Celtic Knot Mandala

3. A Celtic Knot Mandala

The knot in this painting together, with the square frame form a mandala. Although I did not consciously set out to paint a mandala, I realized a Celtic knot with imbedded figures would express well the depth of our belonging to the unfolding story. The mandala, as understood by Carl Jung is an expression of the archetype of wholeness. It is visualization that invites us to experience our personal wholeness within the embracing support of the earth and cosmos in its visible and non-visible dimensions. It is said that symbols, such as the mandala, are the most basic way a person can grasp something not fully known. Instead of the perspective of the ego that sees only our separation from things, we are invited to embrace our belonging to the visible and non-visible dimensions of the earth and universe. We are already at home. While we outwardly appear separate, the holy is that which secretly binds us all together. It is cause for great celebration that western humanity is awakening once again to the depth of its belonging to the universe.
