A Remarkable Abundance

A Remarkable Abundance

16. A Remarkable Abundance

In the rich, sandy soils of New Jearsey where my father grew tomatoes there were often so many baskets of tomatoes in the wagon lanes in the fields, that there was a continuous, crowded line of red-topped baskets waiting to be taken to the truck. The baskets were then stacked high on the truck and taken to Campbell Soup in Camden, New Jersey. There was often a remarkable abundance of tomatoes, producing many tons to the acre. I love the distinctive smell of tomato vines and the delicious taste of vine-ripened tomatoes. In this painting the design with the light within reminds me of the sacred depth in all things and the beauty of this seemingly ordinary vegetable.
